Carol Vernallis research



Carol Vernallis has observed music videos very closely to discover that the editing is very different to what the editing that you would see in films. The camera tends to connect with the rhythm of the song and the edits in music videos are much more frequent.


Here is an example of Carol Vernallis’ theory:
 
 
 

This is the first scene of the music video where a slow motion effect is used as she is fixing her clothing and walking out of the house. 








Jump cuts are used here when she is singing on the beach.

 
 




Throughout the music video in every other scene the camera always returns to her on the beach, this would mean that the beach is one of the main base tracks for the video.
