Carol Vernallis

Carol Vernallis: Main Theory Points
- Role of editing in narrative; editing as a reflection of music
- Synchronisation of image and sound; camera movement in time with the music, cuts or tempo
- Broken rule of continuity editing; more attention on what's on the screen rather than it making sense and being seamless
- Obvious edits and frequent jump cuts, e.g. distinct transitions or special effects (colour change filters)
- Base tracks which form the foundation for music video structure

"Music videos break down visual, lyrical and musical elements to the smallest constituent parts - a prop, a colour, a few words, an intriguing riff'

In Rizzle Kicks' video to their song 'Lost Generation', use of frequent jump cuts, slow motion and base tracks support Vernallis' theory.
